12 AUG. 2019 – ETAP-2 REPORT

In the morning, after passing over SS1 with its short stretch of sand dunes the participants warp through a super-long liason (road linking the special stages) of some 650 kilometers or roughly the distance from Tokyo to Okayama. However this portion of the liason is blessed with much natural beauty. Then, in SS2 everyone heads for today’s bivouac at Khar Nuur. As the beautiful blue vision of the lake begins to appear everyone feels stirred by some kind of strong feeling. In this stage also, the Can-Am (SXS) vehicles occupy 1ST through 4TH place or 1ST and 2ND place overall. Top place among the Japanese group is not taken by a motorcycle but an SXS vehicle named the Can-Am (SXS) vehicle driven by Matsuno and Tajiro team in 15TH place. The Chinese group of four KTM Adv machines is also heating up the competition.

「Beautiful Khar Nuur, a Dream you can see on the Earth」

Today after leaving the bivouac you have a short SS-1 of a mere 19 kilometers. From there you take a very long liaison but never seem to get bored. Here you can see beautiful valleys, a lake whose color looks like the Mongolian blue sky is melting into it, and the northern area with the tiger forests of Siberia. The evergreen forest belt is magnificent. After refueling at a small town, you head towards SS2 with the sun starting to drop along the horizon. You see land with wide cracks and dried riverbeds, you proceed cautiously ahead and finally beautiful Khar Nuur lake appears ahead. This is a super-special moment to savor.
